NKP #765 on the Joliet Rocket

Description

Perhaps no steam locomotive has toured such as large a swath of North America as Nickel Plate Road #765. Since being brought back to life by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, the locomotive has traveled everywhere from New England, through the Appalachian Mountains, and well into the Midwest. The Roundhouse has covered a variety of its trips, including a Norfolk Southern mainline excursion and a cab ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

In 2017, the steam locomotive participated in a unique mainline excursion. The Joliet Rocket transported passengers aboard streamlined passenger cars from Joliet Il to downtown Chicago, where a private event was held for passengers with food, beverages, reenactors, and live music. At the end of the weekend, the train is seen racing along the former Rock Island mainline at sunset.
