Steam Locomotive Stable

Description

Context can add so much character to history. It’s to Jerry Joe Jacobson’s credit that while he amassed a huge collection of nearly two dozen steam locomotives he knew that they needed to be displayed in a historical environment. The Age of Steam Roundhouse now provides visitors with the rare chance to see a collection of large and small steam locomotives in a roundhouse recently constructed but based on historical architecture.

As someone raised on a steady diet of Canadian Pacific and Canadian National fandom by my father, I have a soft spot for Canadian steam. Jerry’s collection includes a number of CP, CN, and Grand Trunk Western locomotives, but my favorite has always been CP #1293. Seeing its smokebox in line with other locomotives, including CN #1551, makes me thankful that Jerry had his vision and saw it through.
